A holiday cottage in the Dordogne, France on the edge of the small village of Saint Julien-de-Bourdeilles set in the hills above the Dronne valley in the north of the Dordogne department, about 18 miles north of Périgueux. The Dordogne, also known as the Périgord, is part of the south-west region of Aquitaine.
St Julien, which has a population of about 100, is about 3 miles from Bourdeilles and 5 miles from Brantôme. Brantôme is a delightful small town set on an island in the river Dronne and is described in at least one guide book as 'one of the most attractive small towns in France'. Because of its rivers and bridges it is also known as "the Venice of the Périgord". Bourdeilles features prominently in guide books as well and has a very fine château.
